The HoneyCreek Horse Camp provides more beautiful scenery in just a half-day’s ride, than you’ll find anywhere. There are numerous views along the trails, including beautiful cliffs and creek crossings. The natural arch formation and Potter's Cave are only a 10-minute ride/walk from camp. For the die-hards, the Mt. Helen trail connects up to over 150 miles of equestrian trails within the Big South National Park. Within 30-minutes from camp, you can be riding along the beautiful White Oak River. The White Oak runs along the old O&W Railroad bed which served the old mining and timber camps in the late 1800’s - early 1900’s, and has since been turned into part of the park's equestrian trail system. |

Most of our trails are old logging roads with a sand & sandstone base. Not surprising, to any part of the East Tennessee Mountains, is that it will get a bit rocky the closer to water you get. Horses should be willing to cross streams and rivers, for there are several crossings to make. I do recommend that your horse(s) have shoes. An intermediate rider should have absolutely no problems negotiating “any” of the trails. My best guess is that 98% of the local trails are wide enough to ride 2 abreast. |

We are frequently asked, “Is there enough riding for a full week’s stay?” This is a fairly hard question to answer and depends on your mount and riding style. So I’ll give you and example: I ride a fast/gaited walking horse. I can ride 8 to 10 hours a day, at a humane pace with reasonable rests, and can almost cover the “local” trail system within 5 days, with very little backtracking. If you like to ride 4 to 5 hours a day, you will have no problem finding new trails and places to go – with a full week’s stay; and still remain within a sensible distance from camp. There are many trail loops, ranging from 3 miles to 30 miles, and all are marked very well. There are three (3) different directions from which to leave camp, allowing for a different route of return. There are no paved or public roads to cross within the scope of the trail system local to our camp. |
